The History of Margaret's Fine Consignments
Entrepreneur Margaret Thornberry has transformed Louisville’s secondhand shopping scene by recognizing value where others might overlook it. Her business, Margaret's Fine Consignments, has redefined the consignment experience — replacing the typical thrift shop atmosphere with an upscale boutique featuring sought-after labels and stylish décor. What began 32 years ago with Margaret purchasing items at yard sales, cleaning them up, and giving them new life has grown into one of Louisville's most recognized consignment destinations.
Margaret’s passion for repurposing stems from her childhood. Growing up in a family of 14, everything they owned had once belonged to someone else. She developed a knack for turning discarded items into cherished pieces — a talent that laid the foundation for her future success.
Over the years, Margaret's Fine Consignments has earned numerous accolades, including:

Beyond her business success, Margaret has been a dedicated community advocate. She's been involved with Hosparus for over 20 years, organizing impactful fundraisers like "Hats Off to Hosparus" and "Purses for Nurses." As a member of the Autumn Leaf Club, she sponsored one patient room and two laundry rooms on the Hosparus floor at the hospital. Margaret has also partnered with United Crescent Hill Ministry, helping raise over $2 million to secure their current building.
In 2017, Margaret was honored with the National Philanthropy Day "Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser" award. Her tireless efforts have helped generate more than $2 million for local causes.
In 2020, Margaret passed the torch to her stepdaughter, Cara Aldridge, who now operates the brick-and-mortar store while expanding the boutique’s reach through an e-commerce platform. Cara continues the legacy of making high-end fashion accessible while embracing the digital age to grow the store's customer base.
Now a destination for bargain hunters from all walks of life, Margaret's Fine Consignments continues to make high-end fashion accessible while giving back to the community — proving that secondhand style can be both chic and impactful.
