Margaret's Story
Business founder Margaret Thornberry has drawn on her own talent for seeing value where others don't and has revolutionized Louisville's secondhand business. Margaret's Fine Consignments has replaced the thrift-shop image with an upscale boutique featuring hot labels and trendy décor. Margaret started her business by purchasing items from yard sales, cleaning them up and turning them into someone else's treasures. The business has grown over the last 32 years to one of Louisville most well-known consignment boutiques.
Margaret's childhood is a driving factor in getting her where she is today. Growing up in a family of 14, everything they had was something someone else threw away. She always loved taking nothing and making it into something.
Margaret's Fine Consignments has received many awards throughout the years including:
-2010 CVB "Rose Award" nominee
-2002 Todays Woman "Her Award"
-2008/2009 Frankfort Ave Business Association "Business of the Year"
-2004/2008/2009/2010 Frankfort Ave Business Association "Good Neighbor Award"
-2001/2014/2015 Best of Louisville Magazine "Best Of Louisville Award"
-2000/2003/2011/2012 Leo Readers "People's Choice Award"
-Business First "Business of the Year"
-Frankfort Ave. Business Association "Best Store Front" winner 6 times
-Frankfort Ave. Business Association "We Care Finalist"
In addition to the many accolades received for the business itself, Margaret has been involved in many community charities and functions in effort to fundraise for those less fortunate. Margaret has worked with Hosparus for over 20 years and created many fundraisers such as "Hats off to Hosparus" and "Purses for Nurses". As a member of the Autum Leaf Club she has sponsored one patient room and two laundry rooms on the Hosparus floor at the hospital. Margaret has worked many years with United Crescent Hill Ministry and has assisted in raising over 2 million dollars to purchase the building the ministry currently operates out of.
In 2017 Margaret received the National Philanthropy Day "Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser" award. Over the years she has helped to raise over 2,000,000 dollars for the local community.
The 31 year old Frankfort Ave. business has become a destination for bargain hunters from all tax brackets.
